This design is the reproduction of a Fresco present in the Nova Chapel in Orvieto, Italy. The Nova Chapel, or Chapel of San Brizio, located in the right transept of the Cathedral of Orvieto, was built between 1408 and 1444. The chapel is famous for its cycle of frescoes depicting the Last Judgment, started by Beato Angelico in 1447 and completed later by Luca Signorelli in 1499-1502. In the lower part of the Nova Chapel, embellished with grotesque characters, a new decorative genre of the time, appear the portraits of scholars as depicted by Signorelli, according to the humanistic iconography of the second half of the 15th century. Among them we find the portrait of Dante Alighieri. It is the refiguration of a scholar, humanist and wise Dante, with a thoughtful face, who would become a model for subsequent portraits of the writer.
