HOW WE MET
The story of Tiziana and Massimo Aloisio, founders of OROGAMI seems more a fairy tale. All started on the night of May 25th in 1990, when, being perfectly unknown, they sat one next to each other on a plane going from Rome to Milan: a plane that he wouldn’t like to take and she wasn’t supposed to be. It’s the last flight of the day and it will be the first of their life together.
For most of the flight they talk about jewelry design, art, architecture, philosophy and of their decennial experience as designers for important Brands in Italy and France. From that moment they haven’t left each other anymore and they gave birth to a personal and professional sodality that will lead them to found, in the same year, OROGAMI.
The name has been chosen to evoke their blessed encounter and it is a portmanteau of the words “Oro”, the Italian word for gold and “gamos”, the ancient Greek word meaning wedding. Union in gold. Furthermore OROGAMI red backwards give Imagoro, a Japanese word that means “ about this time” and this is the underlying philosophy that Massimo and TIziana put in their collections. They design contemporary forms that share wearable meaningful messages expressing the value of the emotion.
OUR STORY
Massimo and Tiziana were both born and raised in Rome. After completing their studies, they worked in the fields of art and architecture. During these years, they had enriching experiences, learned the secrets of the trade from some of the most renowned goldsmiths in Rome and at the same time deepening their knowledge on applied technologies of modern jewelry making.
All of this merged with their sensibility and a wider perspective of different cultures and artistic expressions, gained in extensive traveling experiences, has enlarged their vision making possible an different approach and a very personal jewelry designing point of view. In 1994, for a strange quirk this time too, the couple moved to nearby Orvieto, an ancient city with more than 3,000 years of history located in the green heart of Italy. It was in Orvieto that they found renewed inspiration and a better quality of life.
OROGAMI has an international private clientele and exhibits regularly in art galleries, shows, events or prestigious jewelers in different countries including The United States, Switzerland, Australia and France. Over the years they have been appointed with several design’s awards. In 2002 in recognition of their contribution to the jewelry industry with the paper entitled, “ Jewelry Design: A Meeting Point Between Creativity and Technology” they have been honored with the “Industry Leader Award” given by the Santa Fe Symposium.
OUR PHILOSOPHY
Into OROGAMI’s philosophy can be found the concepts and ideas intertwining of the unique path of its founders. It recall history, art, archeology, echoes of classic cultures – oriental – tribal and the mystery of spirituality and of symbolism present the various traditions. Values and allusions that the inspiration, experience and creativity of Tiziana and Massimo Aloisio transform in artworks of great visual, tactile, charismatic and mysterious impact.
Through each Collection the artworks seek to express and share ideas and concepts linked to life and its emotions. They transfer positive energy in who is wearing them, in who is looking at them and in who is touching them. The creative journey begins with an idea that transform and materialize itself through forms that could express it at its best. This distinctive approach to contemporary design allows OROGAMI to merge aesthetics, high-quality craftsmanship and versatility with primordial symbolic value into its collections.
The Circle, as the most important symbol of life and vitality of things, is one of the most recurrent forms into OROGAMI artwork. The cues of architecture, nature, math with its Fibonacci sequence and the enigmas of the labyrinth together with the play of chiaroscuro, the use of different tonalities of gold and life’s iconic motifs, makes their jewelry recognizable and unique and a perfect representation of the secrets of traditional Italian artisan energies and spirit.
THE ART OF MAKING
For Massimo and Tiziana Aloisio a jewelry artwork piece is the result of a creative path in which, from an outlined sketch on a paper sheet, an emotion an idea materialize itself and become sculptural expression. An OROGAMI piece, unique, and distinctive, thanks to its complex textures and its bold structures could be made only by expert hand, by jewelry masters able to follow and accomplish the design and allowing to become a creation that keep the desired expressive strength.
It is a continuous building research led to empathize the beauty of the material. Through play with light and shadows, full and empty spaces and the chromatic use of gems the desired effect is enhanced. All of this is reached by using technics that have their roots in the traditional and historic ability and skills of the Italian Masters. The result of all of this is a fusion of craftsmanship, thinking and heart.
As simplicity is a difficult thing to achieve, an OROGAMI artwork, is in some sense, unique, difficult to reproduce, placed at the border, as it is, between an excellence craftwork and a piece of Art. Experience and knowledge of the art is nothing if it is not linked to the soul of the master hands that works on the art piece and it’s result will express it’s own soul only if a whisper of the master heart will remain with it.
